Do I really need a care plan for my WordPress website?
If your website is built on the WordPress platform, then the answer is yes.
It really isn’t WordPress’s fault. The platform grew incredibly fast and there are, currently, more than 55,000 WordPress add-ons (aka plugins). Currently, WordPress powers 35% of the web.
This makes it one of the biggest hacker targets on the planet.
Additionally, all websites require some routine maintenance. Just like cars, you must change the oil, rotate the tires, and put in required repairs if you want to reliably get from point A to B. That’s what our care plans provide.
In our experience, a solid WordPress Care Plan must include:
- Weekly plugin updates
- 24/7 uptime monitoring
- Security scans
- Performance scans
- Daily backups
My WordPress website is tiny, do I need regular plugin updates?
Plugin updates are a roll of the dice. We’ve had to emergency patch four plugins in a week to a website that had “zero-day” security vulnerabilities.
Other times, there are only five security issues per year on certain websites.
Barring security patches (of which there are many), there are two factors that dictate how often your website plugin needs to be updated.
- The number of plugins installed on your website. More plugins = more chances of security patches that need to be applied.
- The type of plugins. Certain plugins are better maintained and coded and require fewer updates.
It is common for a business website to have between 15 and 30 plugins installed and require 10 to 20 individual updates per month.
There are over 55,000 plugins to choose from and some need to be updated on a weekly basis.
In the two years since we’ve provided weekly plugin updates for 60+ clients, we have had two security issues that got through. Both websites were fixed within four hours with zero data loss.
I tried to update my plugins myself and it broke my website. What should I do?
Conflicts between your website’s theme, plugins, and WordPress itself are not uncommon.
These conflicts can take down your website and require a restoration of your website or replacement of a plugin.
If your website is no longer working because of a plugin update, please contact us and we’ll take a look.
Note: clients on our Care Plan should not attempt to update plugins themselves. That is our job 🙂
Am I bound by a contract?
When we onboard your website onto your care plan, a lot of effort goes into making sure you are set up properly, all software is updated and stable, and there are no major skeletons in the closet.
We require a three-month commitment for our care plan to cover the time and effort we spend getting you up to speed.
After that, you can cancel at any time before the end of your billing cycle.
Do you offer discounts for multiple websites?
Yes.
Please fill out this form and, depending on how many sites you have, we can create a custom care plan.
We also give a 10% discount for 501(c) organizations.
Are there any hidden charges?
Everything listed above is included in our Care Plan. We realize that some of this is going to sound like mumbo jumbo and hopefully this video will answer most of your questions.
We are here to help. If there is anything that is unclear, now or in the future, please email us at scott@theparkgroup.net.
What happens if there’s a fire, a flood or a malware attack at your server’s location?
We use Kinsta’s cloud-based hosting. Your website is virtual and cannot be lost.
Daily offsite backups are stored in a totally separate part of the United States. You are in good hands 🙂
Is your hosting U.S. based?
We partner with Kinsta, one of the top two managed WordPress hosting companies in the world. We will select a data center that is closest to your target audience (for speed) and can enable CDN for a major performance increase.
Why do we partner with Kinsta? GoDaddy, Hostgator, Bluehost, etc aren’t even in the same league as Kinsta when it comes to performance, security, and support.
Do you provide email hosting?
Hosting your email with a web design agency is so 1999.
We recommend hosting your email with an enterprise solution such as Microsoft Office 365 or G Suite (Google’s Business Email).
Your email always needs to end in your company name (no Hotmail or Gmail) and we can assist you with your G Suite emails. However, you will be paying them directly so that you get their enterprise-level support.
